MUSIQUE(S)!
THE EXHIBITION

Created for the American Folklife Center – and to be stored in the permanent archives of the Library of Congress in Washington D.C. –  Musique(s)! celebrates Louisiana’s rich tradition of music sung in French and Creole.

An ambitious project, Musique(s)! will result in the creation of an album and publication, as well as the release of a film and an exhibition that will be presented at the Historic BK House & Gardens in early 2025.

The song recordings and filming of the interviews took place at Esplanade Studios in August 2024, with six musicians and bands: Leyla McCalla (Grammy winner), Louis Michot (Grammy winner), Sweet Crude, Sunpie & the Louisiana Sunspots, Les Cenelles, and the Baby Dolls.

JANUARY MAY 2025

MUSIQUE(S)! is an interdisciplinary project funded by the Library of Congress.

EXHIBITION 23 24

HAITI-LOUISIANA

Haiti-Louisiana: Tides of Freedom explores the historical and cultural ties between Louisiana and Haiti, focusing on the important role that the Haitian Revolution played in shaping both places.

Through a selection of contemporary art - several of the works were commissioned from Louisiana and Haitian artists – Haiti-Louisiana creates a dialogue examining mythology(ies) and cultural practices alongside some of history’s most important historical figures.

First presented at the Historic BK House & Gardens from January to March 2024 through the New Orleans Foundation for Francophone Cultures, Haiti-Louisiana was then displayed at the United Nations headquarters in New York City.
